About Bill

Bill began cycling for fun at age 13, started racing at 15, and continued on a successful 35+ year racing journey, including five years professionally in the US and abroad. As a natural extension of his time in the sport and knowledge gained, Bill began coaching towards the end of his professional career. During that time, he’s worked with countless athletes as they’ve won National Championships, gained World Championship team berths, achieved innumerable victories, podiums, and personal bests, as well as worked and run numerous USA Cycling Devo and Talent ID camps to help uncover the next generation of top US cyclists.

As part of his continued growth, Bill started to move into announcing. With more than 37 years of knowledge in every level of the sport, Bill knows most of the players and brings unparalleled knowledge to both racers and spectators alike. His ability to relate well to what the athletes are going through helps him convey that to spectators and fans, keeping them informed, engaged, and excited about the racing they are enjoying.

“Bill’s professionalism, in-depth knowledge of the sport, experience, and great personality make for top notch announcing. The fact that he’s raced our course and knows many of the racers translates into his announcing, and he is able to speak to both those involved in the sport and the casual bystander drawing them into the excitement of the race. He is also flexible, an important trait to have in event promotion as things don’t always go as planned. We look forward to having him back, and would highly recommend him to other events. ”

“Charm City Cross has been around for over 17 years, and a large part of our continued success lies in striving to always give our customers the best possible experience in every aspect. Adding Bill as one of our announcers back in 2017 proved to be one of the decisions that has helped continue our success. Bill adds in-depth knowledge of both the local and national cyclocross scene—players, history, and storylines–and provides that extra element of what we desire to present to our racers, sponsors and spectators. He’s very adept at combining calling the action and showcasing our sponsors, and works comfortably and efficiently with other announcers that have come and gone. Bill has become an integral part of the Charm City Team due to his talent, integrity and professionalism, and we look forward to him calling our events as long as we’re on the calendar.”
