About Bill Elliston

I began cycling at age fourteen, racing at fifteen and have been hooked ever since. Over the last 35 plus years, I’ve competed (and continue to) successfully across local, national, and international levels, and in nearly every discipline including road, track, cyclocross and mtb. I’ve competed all across the US as well as Canada, Belize, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe and New Zealand. During that time, I spent 5 years professionally for Navigators Insurance, Sony Music Studios, TARGETRAINING, and Rite Aid Pro Cycling. In my final year as a professional, 2008, I had the distinction of being the oldest US registered professional. Through that time, I’ve won numerous State Championships, National Championship medals, international events, and many top 10 placings in UCI events, as well as helping teammates to success.
As a natural extension, I began mentoring team-mates and friends in the late 90’s, began my formal coaching at Targetraining in 2005, and started my own coaching business in January 2007.

As a coach, I’ve had the great pleasure of working with many clients and guiding them to high levels of success, including:

  • Multiple National Championships
  • Multiple National Championship Podiums
  • Athletes selected for USA World Championship Teams (road and cyclocross)
  • Athletes selected for US World Cup (cyclocross) rosters
  • Overall NRC Championship
  • Hundreds of category upgrades
  • Innumerable PR’s

I’ve worked extensively with USA Cycling- five years with their Devo and Talent ID Camps, in every role from assistant coach, to head coach, and to camp manager; and helping coach the inaugural Olympic Development Program (ODP) on the track. I’ve also run numerous clinics, camps, private team camps, and co-headed a US State Department program for the Belize Cycling Association. Additionally, I’ve directed teams in dozens of UCI rated single day and stage race events, including a 10 year (and counting!) run at the Junior Men’s UCI Nations Cup Tour l’Abitibi in Canada.

“Bill’s years of training and racing experience were a key component in my success as professional cycling racing in the US. Bill doesn’t just hand you a program and set you off on your own. He gets to know you and understand you as a person and works with your individual goals. Not only does he take into account your strengths and weaknesses, but he develops a program that is based on your lifestyle and personality. Bill helped guide me through some of the toughest stage races in the country and was there for me when the going was tough. Through great communication, we developed training programs that worked specifically for me to help me accomplish my goals in the Tour de Georgia, US Pro Road and Crit Nationals among others. I can honestly attribute much of my success as a professional to Bill’s expertise.”

“Working with Bill has given my training a whole new direction and structure. I have a clearly laid out plan for the offseason, and I know what direction my training is going. Not only do know where it’s going, but I have a firm grasp of the reasoning behind it. Bill doesn’t just design my training plan; he also takes the time to explain its significance in every phase. He takes into consideration my personal life and work schedule, which optimizes my training fully. And when things change, he adapts my schedule. I know I can call him or email him at any time to help make changes. And since he’s local, I have the benefit of training with Bill at times too. I fell my off season preparations are coming along better than ever before and I am looking forward to hitting the season hard. Bill knows my goals for the coming season and has built my training plan around them to help me accomplish them and I am confident I will.”
